AI learning in Malaysia
Malaysia's home market, and the reference case for system-native EdTech: multilingual classrooms, a single high-stakes gate, and a strong tuition culture.
Note: Malaysia’s exam system is mid-reform — dates below reflect the state as of 2026.
Exam systems
- SPM (Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia) — The Form 5 national certificate, under the KSSM curriculum (2017, higher-order-thinking emphasis). Since UPSR and PT3 were abolished (2021–22), SPM is the first true national high-stakes gate.
- STPM — Form 6 pre-university, treated as A-Level-equivalent.
- UEC / IGCSE — Parallel streams — the UEC at Chinese Independent High Schools; IGCSE then A-Level or IB at international schools.
